Should we laugh or cry?

By Bin Ismail

A while ago an Ahmadi said “assalamo alaikum”, meaning ‘peace be unto you’ to the mulla of his neighborhood. Though courteous, this was obviously not a very wise act on the part of the Ahmadi gentleman. The mulla returned the courtesy by lodging a complaint against the Ahmadi, claiming that the Ahmadi had violated the Anti-Ahmadi Ordinance XX, now a part of the constitution of Pakistan, by using an Islamic greeting, thus “posing to be a Muslim”.

The accused was summoned to the Police Station. The not-so-wise Ahmadi was fortunately received by a wise police officer, who asked him why he said “salam” to the mulla. The Ahmadi innocently replied, “I only intended to send peace to the cleric.”

The wise policeman said to the Ahmadi, “I’m letting you go this time, but make sure you never repeat this in future. Next time invoke the curse of God on this bloody mulla.”

  1. For the editors it is sometimes not easy to decide where to post some of the News, like this one.

We decided to put it under ‘Laughter’ because it should actually be just too silly to be true, right?

And, as it is actually true, should we post it under ‘Pakistan’ as well?

  2. The curse in fact is pouring on them day and night. Only they do not realise.

What can we do except pray and keep on reminding them to take heed. May Allah have Mercy on this Nation.Amen

  3. When will the Mullah types understand that ‘Assalamu alaikum’ is not just for Muslims ONLY? The Holy Qur’an tells us that when someone (note that it can even be an atheist), greets you, greet him/her with a better one and what could be better than invoking peace on someone which is what Assalamu alaikum, is.

In my country, I have so many non-Muslim friends and acquaintances who are always greeting me with Assalamu alaikum and vice versa. Can you imagine if I was in Pakistan what would happen?! I would have been perpetually serving prison sentences with my various non-Muslim friends, too:) Totally ridiculous!

Btw, have these Mullahs or the Govt. of Pakistan got copyrights to the greeting and it’s reply to/of Assalamu alaikum?
