Muslim Schoolgirls Left in Tears after being Denied Entry to School in Azerbaijan

Muslim schoolgirls were left in tears after being denied entry to their school in Sumgayit, Azerbaijan, reportedly because they were wearing the hijab. Footage circulating online shows the students walking away visibly distressed, just days after Azerbaijan introduced new school uniform rules restricting clothing deemed inconsistent with the “secular principle” of public education. The new regulation does not explicitly mention the hijab, but it has been interpreted by some schools as restricting the Islamic headscarf. The incident has renewed concerns over religious freedom and Muslim girls’ right to education, with critics arguing that students should not be forced to choose between their faith and attending school.
