Bloody conflicts in a band of Africa stretching from Senegal to Somalia are hampering efforts to bring progress to the troubled region. Muslims are increasingly pitted against Christians, and nomads against sedentary farmers. Matters are made worse by climate change and a flood of weapons.

What Ms Raziyya from Mambasa, Kenya has to comment on following:
“Neighboring Kenya, once Africa’s model country, has also allowed itself to be drawn into the conflict and is now embroiled in a heated battle for territory with the radical Islamic militias — a war that seems unwinnable by either side”.
Thanks for this opportunity, Zubair sb. Actually, Kenya had very little alternative since dialogue with whoever is so-called ‘ruling’ Somalia is not possible. And the Al-Shabab, for some reason best known to themselves have been kidnapping our tourists and also killing them.
Since tourism is one of our main (especially at the Coast), foreign currency earner, we could not allow this terrorist group to continue with the murder of innocent lives – both local and foreign.
Hence, our present incursion into Somalia. And from what I understand, we’re slowly succeeding. Unfortunately, the Somalis, themselves are into their own version of tribalism (like much of Africa including Kenya), i.e. clanism and warlords which is really hampering any peace process.
The Al-Shabab are applying their own interpretation of Islam and imposing this on everybody. Of course, it is a very bloody interpretation that is doing nobody any good except, maybe themselves!
Thanks for indepth comment. Looks you know crux and can feel the pulse of the matter. One can only pray to get rid of these so called religious leaders. Kenya is a pretty land with good natured people. May Allah save this beautiful country from the clutches of neighbouring stupids.
Thank you, again, and the compliment for my country and it’s people, too. Have you been here?
Not yet. Only been to West Africa. But know and saw it through media.
