Punjab University Lahore joins lawyers in banning Shezan Products

Lahore: Days after a lawyers’ group banned juices made by an Ahmadi-owned firm from court complexes in Lahore, a “permanent ban” has been imposed on the drinks by Punjab University, the largest varsity of Pakistan.

Shezan fruit juices have banned in Punjab University, which has some 32,000 students. The Islami Jamiat Tulba, the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami has a strong presence on the campus.

Owners of canteens in the campus have stopped serving Shezan juices due to pressure from the students’ organisation, sources said.

A Punjab University spokesman said: “We cannot force the canteen owners to stock a particular product or not as it is their prerogative.”

Asked about the IJT’s influence in such a matter, he said during Vice-Chancellor Mujahid Kamran’s tenure, “we have stopped IJT from carrying out its political agenda”. Read More.

  1. Weird en weirder! Take a break take a (healthy, quality) Shezan. Fine then; let them take unhealthy coke and have major health problems.

  2. I got so surprised that why Jamaete Ahmadiya,s second Khalifa Hazret Mirza Bashir-du-din Mahmood Ahmad had advised strongly(his own commentary on surah al Kahaf is astonishing) to his Jamaet that they should study, research and read “surah alkahaf” regularly, especially ten first Ayah of this Surah from Quran-e Karim. Ahmadi,s in Pakistan now a day’s Are like Ashab-ey Kahaf. May Allah bless and protect Ahmadi,s from these evil and cruel thinking people of Pakistan who call themselves the “Elite” class of Pakistan. I also wonder a lot that why Pakistanis has never experienced peace since the birth of this” Muslim” country , in last seven decays, what they have done wrong???

  3. Perhaps it was unwise to point out the absurdity of the lawyers’ action against Shezan. I was of the opinion that if some schizophrenic folks are trying to please their unjust god, let them as long as they’re not being violent. This saga of a public company being punished for its past connection to an Ahmadi, reminded me of the following article, I wrote in 2010, in a sort of oblique way.

You see, if we follow our motto “Love for all hatred for none” we have to be empathetic to these folks as well and try to see the trouble some of them are in. They want to do something to please their God, but they do not have the right guidance. While praying for them is the best course of action we should also try to educate them by pointing out that Islam teaches kindness, love and justice for all.
Now while praying and preaching goes on, I am sure it does, we should also try to rationalize the situation. It appears to me that more than religious zeal these acts of flagrant injustice are motivated by the wish to be noticed as being able to force their will. The Khatme-Nabuwwat lawyers were apparently able to pull it off nicely, though officially it fizzled, so now the student unions are out to get their pound of flesh. Of course they did not have to make an announcement to enforce the ban!
So perhaps it would be helpful if there is a lesser show of indignation at the absurdities, in the name of religion, that go on in Pakistan. If we stop giving them coverage they may not see much point in being cruel to the Ahmadis.
