JEDDAH: According to a recent survey, Saudi women indicated that they prefer having a successful career and earning their own money than to having a wealthy husband.

Over 200 Saudi women between the ages of 17 and 35 took part in the online survey conducted by Arab News. 87 percent of single women said they would choose work over having a wealthy husband, and 13 percent agreed to marry a rich man because they either wanted to start their own business or they considered spending their rich husband’s money a job in itself. On the other hand, women who wanted a career said they wanted to make a name for themselves by working.

When given the choice between raising a family or working, the majority again voted for working.

“I cannot see myself staying at home and doing nothing but cooking and cleaning. I want my husband to see more in me than just a ‘baby-making machine,’” said 34-year-old Zahra Abunaser. She considers staying at home a waste of her education and skills.

“I want to work and get paid for what I do, instead of sitting and watching TV,” she added.

Report abuse I think all who participated in this survey under the umbrella of Arab News are not clear about the idea of life and family. Also it looks like that they all are frustrated due to some reasons as well as inspired by glamorous life as presenting in electronic and print media. Non of them thought about their creation and may be never analyzed that what is the difference in a human being and in animal.Ok let the all women to work, then who will look after the children and home. Money is not the solution of every day life problems neither piece of mind can be purchased. I request to Arab news people that they must get surveys on moral values and think that how we can cultured our people and more civilized. Also pls don’t with the mind of other people and other cultures.

Report abuse i agree with Asif above, the surveys need to be more precise. This article shows the hypocrisy of showing one aspect of wanting women to be a stayed home wife on the other hand displays western thought of an independent women through different media sources. I’m not judging, but If the you want to write about something you see around, atleast give prospective from your view and others. So there isn’t just one side of the story.
