Latest, Makassar – The Indonesian Ahmadiyya Community (JAI) Makassar, together with the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Makassar, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) at the An-Nushrat Ahmadiyah Mosque on Jalan Anuang, Friday, April 3, 2026.

This forum provided a space for open dialogue between journalists and the Ahmadiyya community, with the aim of broadening public understanding and correcting various perceptions that have developed in society.

Efforts to open Space to Dialogue

More than a decade after numerous incidents of persecution against the Ahmadiyya community in several regions across Indonesia, the community is slowly showing signs of wider acceptance within society.

The Ahmadiyya mosque and office on Jalan Anuang is now not only a center of worship but also a space for cross-group discussion.

Several prominent figures from religious organizations, such as Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and academics from the State Islamic University (UIN), have reportedly visited to conduct tabayyun (in-person clarification) regarding Ahmadiyya teachings and practices. Some have even considered Ahmadiyya to be Islamic.

JAI Press Secretary and National Spokesperson, Yendra Budiana, said that the lack of public literacy was one of the roots of misunderstanding.

"So far, public awareness of the Ahmadiyya community is still very low, making them easily provoked by rumors that label the Ahmadiyya community as deviant," he said.

He cited the results of an internal survey that found that approximately 84 percent of the public lacked adequate understanding of the Ahmadiyya community.
