Spain strike causes flight cancellations

Hundreds of flights to and from Spain have been cancelled ahead of tomorrow’s general strike.

Up to 80 per cent of international flights in and out of the country could be grounded by the walkout, which has been called by unions in protest over planned austerity cuts and changes to labour laws.

Train and bus services are also likely to be disrupted. Iberia has scrapped six services between Heathrow and Madrid, as well as more than 240 other flights. Vueling – the low-cost carrier – has cancelled flights from Heathrow to Coruña and Vigo, but is operating its daily route from Heathrow to Bilbao. easyJet has axed 28 flights, including two from Gatwick to Barcelona and one from Gatwick to Madrid.
