Exit Americans, enter sectarian strife

Credit: Asia Times:

Following the withdrawal of United States troops from Iraq three moths ago, sectarian clashes between Shi’ite and Sunni groups have steadily increased. It’s the perfect environment for al-Qaeda to turn the region into the massive insurgent stronghold it used to be, while accusations mount that Iran is exploiting the unrest. – Karlos Zurutuza

  1. Knowingly or unknowingly the Americans encouraged the sectarian divide. Immediately after their arrival they used to ask everyone they met ‘are you Shia or Sunni’? Many Iraqis were annoyed. They wanted to answer that we are Iraqis. Many Shias and Sunnis intermarried during Saddam’s time. Now this is indeed very much different.

  2. Divide and rule. Be it on religious, ethnical or political basis. Uncle Sam s old policy. When the Muslim Ummah will understand it? No chance apparantly.
