Andhra Pradesh Wakf board to Qazis: Don’t perform nikaah of Ahmadies

Ahmadiyyas is an ‘Islamic’ religious revivalist movement founded near the end of the 19th century, originating with the life and teachings of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad at Qadian in Punjab. Muslims across the world regard Ahmadiyyas who are also called as Qadiyanis, as any thing but Muslims. So there is an undercurrent of religious tension between the two groups.

The Wakf Board from the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh took a series of unprecedented decisions yesterday (February 18). Probably first time in its history, the state Wakf board has asked the Qazi in Andhra Pradesh, not to perform Nikaah of those belonging to Ahmadiyya community because they are “not Muslims.”. Besides the matrimonial boycott of Ahmadiyya community, the state wakf board has also suspended religious properties belonging to the community from its list of wakf properties.

The Andhra Pradesh state wakf board chairman Syed Shah Ghulam Afzal Biyabani announced on February 18, that “the four properties belonging to Ahmadiyya sect were registered with the Wakf Board. Since Qadayanis (Ahmadiyyas) are not Muslims, the board has decided to remove them from the list of Wakf properties.”

Even though the Ahmadiyya community leadership strongly denied the possibility of any threatening call from their community members to the wakf board chairman, the matter was politicized when the chairman of wakf board got open support from many Muslim politicians, and religious heads who asked him to take a decisive action against the Ahmadiyya community.

The chief preacher of Ahmadiyyas in the city, Mohammed Muslehuddin Sadi, said openly to the media that “No one from our community could do such a thing. It is baseless propaganda against us.”

  1. Forget Ahmadie Muslims, Allah(swt) is more than enough for us. if you can at least protect civil rights of other Muslims and issues such as lack of education, health care, poverty then your actions would be worth commendation. If you only knew!

  2. India has a big name in the world of democracy and secularism. Do not spoil it by following the foot steps of Pakistan. Cant you see the miseries your neighbour is facing due to religious intolerence?

  3. What is so interesting is the fact that our Jama’at is holding a blood drive in this province. Will these people also refuse blood donated by our members to save their lives?

And as brother Haque observed – why not deal with the illiteracy and poverty, first?

And will they not learn from neighbouring Pakistan?

  4. Jazakh Allah! Thanks for your concern and your support on this brothers and sisters! Though i am not an official spokesperson for Andhra Pradesh Jamat, still can say that Ahmadies wouldn’t mind if qazis do not perform their nikahs. But will praise these people if they do something for betterment of common muslims or the people of Andhra Pradesh in general.

I will not find any place better than this to share below resource. Insha Allah if Allah(swt) enables us, we will be helping everyone irrispective of faith/sect. May Allah(swt) give everyone peace and tranquility. Aameen!

Ahmadis are held to be Muslims by law in India. Their legal status as Muslims is supported by a landmark ruling by the Kerala High Court on 8 December 1970 in the case of Shihabuddin Imbichi Koya Thangal vs K.P. Ahammed Koya, citation A.I.R. 1971 Ker 206.
