Speakers call for interfaith harmony

PESHAWAR: Speakers at a conference on Sunday called for mutual respect and interfaith harmony among the followers of different religions to bring about peace in the country.

The conference was organised by the National Peace Committee Inter-Religion Harmony. NPCIH Chairman Allama Ayaz Zaheer Hashmi said Pakistan had come into being in the name of Islam and as a result of democratic process. He said there was no room for violence or taking up arms as it was unlawful and against the teachings of Islam.

Hashmi said the formation of the NPCIH was aimed at promoting peace and harmony among countrymen irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political affiliation. The volunteers of the NPCIH would stand up against terrorists, he added.
