A computer program developed by an Israeli expert has given new hints as to the creation of the old and the new testament and their authors.
The software analyses stile and choice of words in order to differentiate the various authors of the texts.
This means that it is made clear that various authors were part of the creation of the bible.
The computer software is actually part of a project for artificial intelligence which wants to prove authorship. There are different possible future uses for the software from assisting the police up to the development of software for writers.
The product of various authors with differing styles.
For millions of Jews and Christians it is a basis of their belief that core parts of the Hebrew bible – the Torah or the five books of Moses – are the word of God. However, since the beginning of the modern bible research researchers feel that the texts are the work of different authors with different styles who also had different ideological aims. This becomes clear in the way they use different names for God.
The researchers are dividing the texts generally into two groups. One has probably been written by one person or a group of persons, known as the ‘priestly authors’, because they probably had a relationship with the temple of Jerusalem. The rest is ‘none-priestly’. The researchers have exactly researched the texts in order to make it clear to which group of the texts they should be assigned.
Handy-craft of several centuries recapitulated.
The new computer software now confirms this differentiation. The agreement with the results of the bible researches was near 90 per cent. In a few minutes therefore the work of many years of the bible researchers was confirmed, as the computer scientist Mosche Koppel from the University Bar Ilan near Tel Aviv explained.
