AMMAN – Scores of prominent Arab singers as well as local and international dance and music troupes will take part in the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, organisers announced on Saturday.

Planning for the festival’s cultural and artistic activities is completed and Jerash is ready to host the event after a four-year absence, head of the Jerash Festival Higher Committee Fayez Tarawneh said yesterday.

“The locations in Jerash that will host the festival’s various activities are now almost ready after Jordan Armed Forces personnel worked round-the-clock over the past month to prepare the site for the event,” he told reporters during a press conference to announce the programme.

The festival opens on July 20 at the southern theatre with Jordan’s well-known Rum Troupe, which performs under the leadership of musician and composer Tareq Nasser.

Prominent Arab singers and artists on the programme include Melhem Barakat and Najwa Karam from Lebanon, Nabeel Shail from Kuwait, musician Omar Kheirat from Egypt and Metab Saqqar, Nahawand, Hani Metwasi and Hussein Salman from Jordan.

Dance troupes include Al Jeel Al Jadeed Club for Circassian Folklore from Jordan, Galata Mevlevi Ensemble from Turkey, Alashekeen band from Palestine, Enana Dance troupe from Syria and the Spanish Ballet of Murcia.

Tarawneh highlighted that this year’s Jerash Festival will celebrate and promote local talents in song, dance, poetry and music.
