The Rights of Children upon their Parents

Apart from the parents’ rights over their children, the Holy Qur’an also clearly mentions the rights of the children upon their parents. It declares:

“They have suffered heavy loss who have murdered their children without realizing it. Similarly, they declared some food forbidden (unlawful) what Allah has provided for them, forging a lie against Allah (Allah had not forbidden for them)…” (Surah al-An‘am; Ch.6: V.141)

On the same subject another verse of the Holy Qur’an declares:

“…do not murder your children for the fear of paucity of food–––It is We who provide for you and for them as well.…” (Surah al-An‘am; Ch.6: V.152)

In both these verses, the word ‘murder’ does not imply physical murder. It is a metaphorical expression meaning, among other things, that you should not bring them up in a manner which is tantamount to their spiritual murder. Again it is implied, do not exercise any family planning fearing you will be overburdened by providing for them for the same reason as has been mentioned before viz., that Allah provides for them as well as for you. In this verse, Allah prepares humans for a universal holy war against family planning in the latter days, where it is carried out for the fear of shortage of food.
