AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday underlined that Jordan will continue its role in protecting Jerusalem and its holy sites.
During a meeting yesterday with the secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, His Majesty underscored the role of the organisation in safeguarding the common interests of Muslim nations, enhancing the solidarity of their people as well as promoting the true essence of Islam as a religion of tolerance and moderation.
Talks also focused on the latest developments in the Arab region and the efforts being exerted to break a deadlock in the peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis to ultimately lead to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution.
For his part, Ihsanoglu acknowledged Jordan’s historic role in defending Jerusalem and its holy sites, expressing appreciation for the King’s efforts in boosting the unity of the Islamic world.
