NEW YORK: A woman in the US has been featured on a new series of Nat Geo WILD for living alone on her 12 acres of land in California, with close to 800 cats and about 15 dogs.

The series, titled ‘The Lady with 700 Cats’, which is narrated by ‘Glee’s’ Jane Lynch, focuses on Lynea Lattanzio’s ‘The Cat House’, which is one of the only cat sanctuaries of its kind, located in Parlier, Calif., outside of Fresno.

Lattanzio, who takes in rescues from all over the world, says she often gets cats flown in from New York from owners who decide their apartments are too small to house their pets.

“If I were a cat, this is where I’d be. We’re a no-cage, no-kill adoption sanctuary,” the New York Post quoted her as saying.

She gets the word out about her sanctuary by her YouTube video and other social networks like Facebook and PetFinder.com, and she expects the series to increase traffic, as well.

Lattanzio’s mother wouldn’t allow her to have a pet cat growing up. She began rescuing cats after her divorce and has since saved close to 19,000 felines.

  1. It is a wonderful gesture towards animals. It will be even more majestic to provide such facilities for needy children especially if somebody has the imagination, commitment, resources, stamina and innovation like Ms Lynea Lattanzio.

  2. Ms Lynea Lattanzio is doing a noble work. I respect her decision very much. If every family of the world had kept one or two pets then all the abandoned cats and dogs would have been living happily. I have kept 60 cats. But with great regret I am telling that nobody except me in my family and our neighbors do not like this. With lots of struggle I am keeping them. My situation is very worse. Some months ago somebody has killed one of my favorite cats. Within these years six or seven of my cats went missing. One year ago in my absence my brother took seven of my cats in a sack and left them somewhere. Outside dogs are killing my cats. some of my cats who are very shy and do not leave home ever are vanished suddenly. Whey I ask about them in my neighborhood nobody is interested to hear about cats and most of them tell that they have not seen my cats. Some years ago I adopted a street cat with its three kittens and now they became 60 and increasing. Now I have started to sterilize them. What will happen in future I don’t know. I have not married because of them. I am spending all my day for them. So I am not being able to do a job. I expect by reading Ms Lattanzio’s story some people may understand my situation and they will not think me as an outcast.

  3. I admire your efforts and passion. I am pretty sure people will have far more respectful approach to human children than animals.

  4. Sarita, your passion is appreciated. Instead burdening yourself alone with all the mess why not to find some one having similar intrests like you in your even distant srroundings, who can share some of the worries of these pets.
