AMMAN – For Malaysian students and parents alike, the high quality of education in Jordan coupled with the country’s stability are the main reasons to come to the Kingdom for university.

The diverse culture, the various tourist attractions and the warmth of Jordanians also encourage Malaysians to study in the Kingdom.

“Studying overseas is very challenging and informative and Jordan is an excellent hub for foreign students,” said associate professor Wan Ismail Ben Wan Mamat, whose son is one of 51 Malaysian students that celebrated their graduation from the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) on Wednesday evening.

“Knowing that my son was studying in Jordan was a relief for me. I was never worried about him. This country, its people, Islamic culture and traditions are all reasons that encouraged me to send my son to study in Jordan,” the associate professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia, told The Jordan Times at the graduation ceremony.

His son, Wan Mohammad Izham, who completed six years of study at JUST’s faculty of medicine, said his stay in Jordan was a turning point in his life.

“I was very satisfied and impressed with the high quality of education here. Medical education is in line with high international standards,” he said.

“My parents have visited me twice in Jordan and I took them to Petra, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, Jerash, Aqaba, Um Qais and other interesting tourist sites. I learnt a lot about the culture and enjoyed the four seasons in this country,” he said.

According to Malaysia’s Ambassador in Amman Dato Abdul Malek Bin Abdul Aziz, 1,600 Malaysian students are currently enrolled in Jordanian universities.

This number is expected to reach over 2,400 by the end of this year as some 859 Malaysian students will join several local universities in September, which will make Jordan host to the second largest number of Malaysian students in the region after Egypt, the ambassador told The Jordan Times.

“Jordan is a very good education hub for students from Malaysia and other Asian countries, especially those with Muslim populations,” said the ambassador.
