Jordan: Town residents share lunch with police as ‘thank you’

by Jordan Times | Nov 18, 2012 |

AMMAN — Representatives of the local community in Naour on Sunday shared lunch with the district’s police station personnel and 15 other stations and Gendarmerie personnel at various posts.

The organisers said that the initiative is “a small fraction of our debt to public security personnel”, who are undergoing “so much to protect us and our properties”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

At least 57 security men were injured, some seriously, during riots in several areas amid protests against a decision to lift fuel subsidies.

They said the move was also to “show appreciation for the police and Gendarmerie for their efforts in the last few days”.

They added that they are seeking to cooperate with civil society institutions in Naour, 30km southwest of Amman, to activate the local community’s role in supporting security personnel.

NOTE BY THE EDITOR: If it was not for this ‘thank you lunch’ we would not really know how bad the riots were.
Thank you to Jordan Times then for the information.
