  • Police broke up an Ahmadiyah youth community camping activity in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Friday, June 5, 2026.
  • The disbandment was carried out after a group of people held a demonstration to reject the implementation of camping activities at the location.
  • The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Congregation regrets the disbandment without an official letter and urges the protection of citizens’ rights.

SuaraJabar.id – A camping activity attended by hundreds of teenagers and children from the Ahmadiyah youth community in Karanganyar, Central Java ended in disbandment by the police, Friday (5/6/2026).

This step was taken after a group of people came to the location of the activity who held a demonstration to reject the existence of the activity.

Spokesperson and Press Secretary of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Ahmadiyah Congregation (JAI), Yendra Budiana , confirmed the incident and regretted the disbandment which was deemed to have no strong administrative basis.

Chronology of Mass Rejection at the Campsite

Yendra explained that a group calling itself the Islamic Brotherhood Forum (Forum Ukhuwah Islamiah) arrived at the campsite. The group’s estimated size ranged from 50 to 150 people.

Even though the number of demonstrators was much smaller than the number of camp participants, which reached almost 1,000 people, the police still decided to stop the activity.

“The police only checked and counted the number of groups exerting pressure. During negotiations, we requested a written order to disband the group, but the police did not provide one,” said Yendra when contacted by SuaraJabar.

The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Congregation emphasized that the agenda held at the location was purely an outdoor activity (camping) for youth and teenagers.

Yendra confirmed that there was no provocative content in the preaching or religious activities.

“The event was actually a camping event for children and teenagers. We hoped the police would provide protection and guidance, as there were no religious outreach activities taking place there. We focused on safety, as many of the participants were children,” he added.

Currently, he said, JAI is prioritizing the process of returning all camp participants to their respective homes safely to avoid unwanted incidents.

However, legally, Yendra emphasized the need to evaluate the pattern of law enforcement in Indonesia, particularly regarding the protection of citizens’ rights to carry out normal activities.

“We will investigate why a citizen activity permitted by the state had to be disbanded when pressure came from a small group. The disruptive group should be prevented, not the activity itself,” Yendra asserted.

The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Congregation hopes that law enforcement in Indonesia will proceed without discrimination.
JAI urges the state to ensure that every citizen feels at ease while carrying out social activities without being disturbed by groups seeking to undermine security and diversity.

Until this news was published, the local police had not provided an official statement regarding the technical reasons for the disbandment without a written letter.

  1. Unfortunate, instead of following the law the police reacts according to mob demands… (like in Pakistan).
