Number of unmarried parents doubles: Signs of Later Days?

Daily Telegraph: Official figures also show that the number of same-sex couples living together has increased eightfold in that time and that the number of homosexual or lesbian couples bringing up children has trebled in the past two years alone.

Unmarried couples are now more likely than married couples to have children.

The shift in the shape of families is laid out in figures published by the Office for National Statistics that date back to 1996. There are now 26.4  million households in Britain, an increase of more than 10 per cent in that time.

While the number of married couples bringing up children has dropped by almost 12 per cent to 4.6 million in that time, the number of unmarried couples living together has doubled to 1.8 million.
