BBC-UK: Manchester’s newest mosque attracted more than 1,500 Muslims to its grand opening in Hulme.
The £1m Darul Aman mosque, on Greenheys Lane, is thought to be the second largest in Britain.
The mosque was built to serve the revisionist Islam movement Ahmadiyya and was funded by the community.
North West youth president Dr Imran Khan said: “This is a lot of money but it’s quite amazing how willing people were to contribute.”
He added: “We’re talking about men, women and even children giving up their pocket money just for this purpose to build a house of God.”
The mosque is expected to accommodate 1,000 worshippers and is thought to be the sect’s second largest in western Europe.
