Cologne witchcraft trial reopens after 400 years

A witchcraft trial is re-opening in Cologne on Monday in the hope that one woman will have her name cleared, centuries after being burned at the stake.


It is thought around 25,000 women were sentenced to death for witchcraft down the centuries in Germany – including Cologne native Katharina Henot. She was arrested and thrown in prison under charges of witchcraft in 1627.

  1. Those were the Dark Ages in the history of Europe. Africa is in still in this dark age. There are witches camps in the northern part of Ghana where old and poor women accused of witchcraft are kept under deplorable conditions. What is unfortunate is that Pastors and Evangelists are involved in such crusades against women. Such men of God are everywhere in Africa including Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Sierra Leone where they visit untold hardship to vulnerable women. Is the church supposed to liberate human beings or enslaved them?
    It is a shame to African continent.
