Dhaka, Feb 4 (bdnews24.com) – Local government minister Syed Ashraful Islam on Saturday said that if any major terrorist attack happens in Bangladesh, it would be rooted in London.
Speaking at an emergency meeting of the Awami League executive council at Ganabhaban, the party’s acting secretary general said, “If any suicidal activity takes place in Bangladesh, it will come from London. If an attempt is made on Hasina, its preparations will be made in London.” “Such a situation no longer exists in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is no longer an international terrorists’ sanctuary,” he added referring to a recent verdict on two Bangladeshi youths in connection with a conspiracy to attack various vital establishments in London, including the stock exchange and the American embassy. The youths were detained from London towards the end of 2010. “A strike on Bangladesh will cause ripples across the neighbouring countries and the world.” Protecting the country’s sovereignty was Awami League’s main agenda after coming to power, he added, “We have saved the country from becoming a Taliban state… ” “Ten-truck arms were brought into the country to sell them in Dhaka. The arms were brought to start off a civil war.” “The 10 trucks were apprehended by accident. Was that the only consignment of its kind?” He said Awami League would commemorate the violence that took place during the rule of the four-party coalition government, and enumerated how a number of important days including Feb 21 would be marked. bdnews24.com/sum/rn/nir/2345h |
