Fatwa to be issued against honour killings

Honour Killings, Domestic Violence and Misogyny Are Un-Islamic and Major Crimes

Mississauga) Dozens of Canadian and the American Imams / the Islamic leaders affiliated with the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada will be issuing a Fatwa on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Jamia Riyadhul Jannah, 6680 Campobello Road, Mississauga (major intersection: Credit View and Argentia Road) on honour killings, misogyny and the domestic violence.

“We, the Imams across Canada and the United States are united in confronting the honour killings, misogyny and the domestic violence. We must proactively work with the community in order to prevent further tragedies”, said Imam Syed Soharwardy today.

The detailed text of the Fatwa is currently being discussed among the Imams and the religious leaders across the North American continent. Insha Allah (God willing), it will be finalized by Friday and on Saturday most of the Imams will be gathering in Mississauga, Ontario to explain the fatwa to the public and the media. The Imams will be available for any questions.

The Fatwa will be released on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM in a press conference at the Jamia Riyadhul Jannah, 6680 Campobello Road, Mississauga, Ontario.

After the press conference, a “Fateha” (memorial service) for the victims of Shafia family will be held at the same place.
