Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI: No one safe anymore

Daily Dawn: KARACHI: Farahnaz Ispahani, media adviser to President Asif Ali Zardari and wife of Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United States, has said that she had fled to the US for fear that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) might kidnap her and subsequently force Haqqani to sign a confession in order to implicate President Zardari in the memo scandal.

Ispahani’s claims were reported in a Sunday Times article authored by Christina Lamb. The article further alleged that the Pakistani military was “steadily silencing opponents”.

The article moreover stated that Haqqani’s life was in danger.

  1. These are the hard facts but unfortunately no one, niether at home or abraod, has the gutts, boldness, competence nor cheeks to control the Pak Army.

  2. I am afraid I do not agree with Mr. Zabair’s coment. The day we have free and fare elections, and the governament formed is true reprisentative of the pepole of Pakistan and not planted through a deal,(refer to Condi Rice book) is not corrupt and is competent, and last but not the least is able to put Mr. Musharraf a dictator on trial for treason which the present govt. could not as they had a NRO deal with him though now after 4 years they are winining to try him, beleive me that would be the beginning of true democracy in our country. And please lets stop expecting help from abroad We only can put our houise in order. Beleive me there is no short cuts.

  3. ‘free and fair elections’ sound good, but it is not a solution to everything. Do we have a sufficiently educated electorate? Well, even so-called educated electorate may come up with stupid laws (such as the Swiss ‘minaret ban’ when even no mosque was under construction’).

America brought true democracy to Iraq…

    mmmmmmmmm ???

Sorry, I do not have the answer, except: seeking Allah’s blessings!

  4. My coments were specific to army’s role in Pakistajns politics, what you are refering to is an ideal world, Yes I agree there with Mr.Rafiq, Do we have educated electorate? No we do not. The question arises why in 65 years we do not have educated electorate. Now with hindsight let us go back in time and see where we would have been today if sequance of events would have been as under:

In Seventies Mujeeb who won the elections was allowed to form the govt. and Bhutto had sat in the opposition.

In the next election if he had not delivered he would have lost his majority even in East pakistan.Ethinic devide between both the parts would have diminished, and a better leadership options would have emerged and so on and so forth. We would not have been a hostage to so called “shaheeds” and “Military Brass” today
