Odisha: Forest officials from Chilika bird sanctuary were alarmed after outbreak of birdflu in Keranga village in the district of Khordha. A special team is now monitoring the situation in the core areas of Nalabana forest, place of habitation for reeds and migratory birds. During their observation, the team identified three birds who were drowsing. There are around nine hundred thousand birds currently in Chilika Lake. So far forest officials have sent samples of blood, saliva and excreta for seventy six birds to be tested.
In meanwhile animal husbandry department have provided five thousand vaccines for the district of Puri where duck, crow and chicken were found to be dead. The district administration has been granted authority to purchase vaccine up to the extent of need felt by it. However lack of supply of vaccine is hurting vaccination process.
