OIC sends humanitarian mission to Mindanao

JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is sending a humanitarian mission to Mindanao in Philippines, to take account of the situation there following a devastating storm last week.

Typhoon Washi and the flash floods it caused on the southern Mindanao killed over 1,000 people, while hundreds of people were still missing. The delegation, composed of senior officials from the OIC, the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Solidarity Fund, will leave for the Philippines on Sunday, on the directives of the OIC Secretary- General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.

The delegation will survey the region to assess needs and consider possible means for helping those affected quickly, in consultation with relevant government agencies and humanitarian partners of the Organization, including the United Nations.
