NATO Targets Libyan TV Satellite Transmission Dishes

NATO’s mission in Libya is not only intended to ensure the safety of civiliants it seems, but also to prevent information from the Al Qathafi regime reaching the Libyan transmission dishes in the Libyan capital, Tripoli in order to, (it said) to prevent Libyan leader Muammar Al Qathafi from using television to terrorise civilians.

NATO spokesperson Colonel Roland Lavoie said in a video statement distributed by the alliance’s press service on Saturday: “A few hours ago NATO conducted a precision air strike that disabled three ground-based Libyan state TV satellite transmission dishes in Tripoli,”

He added: “The strike performed by NATO fighter aircraft using state-of-the-art precision-guided munitions was conducted … with the intent of degrading Al Qathafi’s use of satellite television as a means to intimidate the Libyan people and incite acts of violence against them.”
