Indonesian government paid Rp 4.6 billion (US$540,000) in blood money

Migrant worker Darsem says she is not worried about the idea of working abroad again, following an ordeal that saw her rescued from Saudi Arabia where she was facing the death penalty for killing a man who tried to rape her.

“I would not say I feel apprehensive, but I have no thoughts about [working abroad] again,” Darsem said Thursday.

Earlier, Darsem was released by Saudi authorities after the Indonesian government paid Rp 4.6 billion (US$540,000) in blood money to the family of her employer, who she allegedly killed in self defense.

Darsem added that she would like to spend her time with her 5-year-old son, Safii, who she left when he was only nine months old.
