A Glimpse into the Family Life of Prophet Muhammad (saw)

HIS FATHER, Abdullah, died about 2 months after his birth.

And when Muhammad (saw) was about 6 year old his mother died while on a journey to Mecca from Medina.

So Abdul Muttalib, his grandfather took him under his care and protection. However not long afterward, his grandfather died too.

Muhammad now passed under the care of his uncle, Abu Talib.

Enough is known of the youth and early manhood of Muhammad to indicate that he was gentle, patient, and obedient, respectful toward his elders, affectionate with his companions, and full of compassion for those who, on account of age, infirmity, or adversity, stood in need of help.

As he grew to manhood, his good qualities were recognized by his contemporaries. They were impressed by his complete integrity, in word and deed, and he became generally known among them as “El-Ameen,” meaning “the Trusty,” or “the Faithful.”

From very childhood he was given to reflection and meditation. In the quarrels and rivalries of others he took no part, except with a view to putting an end to them. He was an embodiment of such prefect morals that even his enemies lauded him. What perfect morals! What everlasting charm! (Taken from Life of Muhammad By Hadrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad)

At home he helped with the household chores, and outside he assisted his uncle by carrying out such tasks and duties as pertained to him or were assigned to him.

He also accompanied his uncle to trade caravans. Later he himself used to trade caravans and once was employed as a trade agent by Khadeeja, a wealthy, middle-aged widow of Mecca in business on her own. He acquitted himself so well in the discharge of his duties that each venture brought considerable profit to his employer. She received favorable reports of his deportment, habits, and behavior. Having confirmed the good impression that she had herself conceived of the young man’s person and character, and she made up her mind to send him an offer of marriage. When the offer was communicated to Muhammad through his uncle, he took counsel with the latter, who advised acceptance, and the match was concluded.

Muhammad was twenty-five when he married Khadeeja, who was forty, had been twice (or thrice) widowed, and had children. The marriage proved a very happy & blessed one. Khadeeja bore Muhammad several children; of these, the sons died in infancy, but the daughters grew to womanhood and in due course married. The descendants of only one daughter, Fatima, who was married to the Prophet’s cousin Ali, son of his uncle Abu Talib, have survived and had two sons, Hasan and Husain.

Muhammad was a loving and affectionate husband, showing tender regard and consideration for Khadeeja; she, on her part, was a devoted wife – She was a constant source of comfort and support to him throughout the remaining ten years of their life together.

The Holy Prophet led an ideal life, a perfect example of living to be followed throughout the future of humankind by all.

The law that he brought ‘The Holy Qur’an’ is the last law (Shariah) of this planet which puts down every single detail regarding everything a person could ever do in his life. No new law would ever come to this land again and if ever any prophets come, they can only be so by following this great prophet’s ways and would only be called ‘Ummati Nabi’ [A prophet from the people of Mohammad] or ‘Mohammadian Prophet’.

The humble Prophet Muhammad (saw) had said: ‘I am only a man like yourselves, but I have received the revelation…

In other words, the one great distinction that separated him from everyone else was being the direct recipient of the Holy Qur’an which he practiced and preached as his beloved consort, Hadhrat ‘A`ishah (ra) would say, “his character was the Qur’an”, he embodied it.

He worked miracles, He foretold the future, and his prophecies were fulfilled not only in his lifetime but continue to fulfill in our times as well and will continue till the end of time itself. He brought a teaching which has attracted countless adherents since he appeared and continue to do. His religion is the final and all world people are to follow it before the end of this world.

The life of the Holy Prophet (peace be on him) was a life of grand success. In his high moral qualities, his spiritual power, his high resolve, the excellence and perfection of his teaching, his perfect example and the acceptance of his prayers, in short, in every aspect of his life, he exhibited such bright signs that even a person of low intelligence, provided he is not inspired by unreasonable rancour and enmity, is forced to confess that he was a perfect example of the manifestation of Divine qualities and was a perfect man. (The Promised Messiah, Al-Hakam, 10th April, 1902, p. 5)

The prophet’s speech is preserved; his thoughts and talks with others on many occasions are all recorded and preserved by many. His example is sought and his ways of life are attempted to be followed by all Muslims today… thou very few, I daresay a negligible number actually succeed.

The status of Muslims today … well, that’s the ‘pathetic part’! Actually so horrific is the condition of Muslims today that any amount of regret would be less; Mohammad (saw) might himself be sorry for the status of majority of Muslims today. Muslims of today have not only tarnished the clean name of Islam or its people (Muslims) but also have attempted to blemish the pure soul Prophet Mohammad (saw) and they present a very different picture of Allah, the Almighty.

Spiritual maladies, i.e., evil thoughts, satanic virtues, insensitivity, are spreading among most Islamic sects as the result of beliefs in unfounded stories and anecdotes. Human sympathy, pity and love of justice, humility and humble-mindedness – almost all good qualities – are disappearing day by day, as if they will soon bid a last farewell to Islam: This callousness and this immorality makes many a Muslim appear no better than the beasts of the jungle.

Oh! But why did we come straight to the present? Let us discuss this in-depth later.

Now let’s go back in time and see Prophet Muhammad (saw)’s First Call to Prophethood
