Pope John Paul II was no saint but man who covered up sin

Epigraph:

Then We caused Our Messengers to follow in their footsteps; and We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow them, and We gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who accepted him compassion and mercy. But monasticism which they invented for themselves — We did not prescribe it for them — for the seeking of Allah’s pleasure; but they did not observe it with due observance. Yet We gave those of them who believed their due reward, but many of them are rebellious. (Al Quran 57:30)

Victims of clerical sexual abuse campaign against canonisation of Pope John Paul II.

Vatican-Pope--john_2892774b

Pope John Paul II should not be made a saint this weekend because of his abject failure to bring to justice sexually abusive priests and the bishops who covered up their crimes, victims of clerical sex abuse said today.

The late Polish pontiff could have prevented “thousands” of children from being raped by pedophile priests but instead chose to ignore the scandal in the interests of protecting the image of the Catholic Church, victims from three continents said on the eve of his canonization.

  1. Victims are certainly overwhelmed by the deal given to them by the Church.

Other Catholics want to take a more broader perspective and want Pope John Paul II to be declared a saint.

But, ultimately God is the Judge of all of us. Some of us politic better in this world than others and that is one of the needs for the Hereafter.

  2. Zia Shah,

Love the misinformation in your Epigraph:
“Then We caused Our Messengers to follow in their footsteps; and We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow them, and WE GAVE HIM THE GOSPEL…….”(Al Quran 57:30)
BTW Christ WAS NOT GIVEN any Gospel.

Further your headline “Pope John Paul II was no saint but man who covered up sin”. I can hear the snickers and see the snide winks and elbow nudges. But then by that scale Mohammed the Prophet too hid his sins does that make him less of a prophet.

  3. If one clearly understands the office of Priesthood, to whom sinners flock confessing, WHETHER IT’S SAINT POPE OR ANY PRIEST, in this regard, stands between the fallen man and the righteous, HOLY GOD. And God’s nature is to forgive sinners, if one is honestly repented for the sins he or she committed. As the leader of such a large church with thousands of priests, I am sure the POPE WOULD HAVE, condemned and punished the ones who have committed such crimes. Either that priest would have been sent out of service or his priesthood pealed off for certain years.

  4. @M. Masala, please note, Gospel it is. The Bible version of today would be unrecognisable to Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him); there have been so many amalgamations in it………

  5. Humaira, First of all. Now really! Did Jesus “receive the Gospel” which according to the unchanged Koran He did. Instead of answering that and the next para about Pope John Paul – sinner or saint – you digress into the Bible. Do not try to change the subject.

BTW Have you heard of the game called “telephone” where people sit in a circle and one whispers to the person at his/her side a statement and then that person repeats that statement to the person sitting besides him/her and so on till the first person who started the whole thing hears the statement – IT HAS CHANGED QUITE A BIT FROM THE ORIGINAL.
I think from this you know what I am getting at.

  6. when we give them bread they call us saints but when “we ask why they have no food they call us rebellious”
