The Kingdom’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh called on the international community to criminalize acts of abusing great prophets and messengers such as Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them all), according to a statement issued today.

The statement was issued in response film in the United States denigrating Islam and ridiculing the Prophet (pbuh).
Al-Asheikh also appealed to the Ummah to react to any attempt to denigrate Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by strictly adhering to the values advocated by the Prophet (pbuh) instead of unleashing violence against innocent people, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

“Condemnation of the attempts to abuse the Prophet (pbuh) should be within the Law of Allah and Sunnah of the Prophet. The Muslims should not shed the blood of innocent people, or vandalize private properties or of public institutions,” the Grand Mufti said.

The mufti said the attempts of a filmmaker filled with hatred to Islam would not harm the great personality of the Prophet (pbuh) or anything in Islam in any manner but would only reflect on the people who spread venomous ideas.

  1. What is so great with Mohammed? He lead wars and commited atrocities as described in the sunna. Things most users here would stronlgy disagree with. Yet, because it was the prophet who is supposed to be free of criticism, it is ok? Alternatively these unpleasant facts are just denied. Both is wrong.

  2. ‘We make no distinction between any of His Messengers;’(2:286).

But the christians do not believe that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was a messenger of God !!!!

Does the Grand Mufti then imply that People or Governments in general should not, as a matter of principle, ridicule the one they truly believe to be a false-prophet ????

I bet that the Government of Pakistan and Indonesia will disagree.

  3. Well Mohamed, I don’t really think that muslims honor all “messengers” in the same way. If that was the case then muslims would storm embassies all the time. Jesus is all the time insulted by left people or people from other religions, also by muslims. The cross was put into urin, a frog was nailed to the cross, the movie life of Brian ridiculed christianity, then a movie where a girl “loved” Jesus so much she could only masturbate with a cross, the pope was pictured in a robe with urin and faeces etc etc…. All these insults against christianity the muslim world probably did not even realize because christians did not act in violence. Muslims also did not, so you clearly make a distinction between what you call it messengers. In the west is freedom of speech for which has been fought for centuries with millions of dead people. Only because of this freedom of speech we have the freedoms and wealth in our society that attracts the whole muslim world to emigrate into western countries. Only free thinking in all aspects leads to progress. I feel everyday insulted by religions and their values (e.g. sharia law), still i dont kill people. I simply have to cope with that. Thats what individualistic societies differ from collectivistic societies such as the muslim world. But always remeber you can also be on the side of the minority in any aspect. The government of Indonesia and Pakistan should better be concerned of the constant church burnings and killings by militants. In Pakistan even the romour of a love between a christian and a muslim girl lets the next mob start to burn christian villages.
