There is a likelihood that the European Sugar Market will extends it preferential agreement made with ACP Countries, including Fiji.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary for Sugar Colonel Manasa Vaniqi.

Vaniqi says the agreement will expire in 2015 but indications are it could be further extended.

He adds under the agreement, European buyers continue to buy sugar from ACP countries under preferential and agreed prices.

The indication to extend the agreement is based from a report that sugar is still regarded as the main supply of sweeteners for the next 10 to 15 years, despite competition.
