How can the West disallow marriage with a second woman, while seeming keen to allow marriage of a man to a man! A marriage between two men or two women does not add to population or future GDP.

  1. I fail to understand why they insist to call it ‘marriage’. (The ‘same-sex-people’). Can they not find another word?

At first I found it a bit strange to ‘link’ the ‘same-sex-marriages’ to the ‘polygamous’ ones. But, yes, why not: If the whole concept of marriage is changed (to allow same sex marriages) it is a relatively smaller step to allow the polygamous ones (which are already legal in many countries, why not extend the legality ‘world-wide’? Sort of as a ‘Universal Human Right’?

  2. I don’t think Muslim men should use this as a cue to start demanding the right to have multiple wives. Their image in regards to treatment of women needs a fair bit of improvement before anyone will take them seriously.

Perhaps they could follow the noble example of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and speak up for the rights and equality of women that Allah Almighty has granted them in the Holy Quran. Women in the US feel there is not enough outrage expressed for the staggering statistics of violence against girls and women here. In my humble opinion this would be a worthy cause for Muslim men in the US to embrace.

  3. Let’s face it: men (and not only Muslims) take multiple ‘wives’ (or ‘partners’) whether it is legally permitted or not. The legalization of polygamy therefore will only benefit the ladies in question. Polygamy means first of all ‘take responsibility’, providing equality. – Exactly in line with what sister Shazia is suggesting.

  4. Actually I am patiently waiting that our dear sisters-in-Islam should request their husbands to have mercy on so many Muslim ladies who failed to find a husband. To reduce these numbers of unmarried Muslim ladies some of us should take on this responsibility. …
