President Obama’s support for Gay Marriages – Participate in a Poll

US President Barack Obama has ended months of hedging on the issue of gay marriage by saying he thinks same-sex couples should be able to wed.

He has become the first sitting US president to back gay marriage.

Mitt Romney, the Republican who is set to challenge Mr Obama for the White House in November’s elections, promptly said he was against gay marriage.

In recent days, Vice-President Joe Biden and cabinet member Arne Duncan had expressed support for gay unions. Read more in BBC online.

  1. Politicians seem to have no personal opinion. There so-called opinion just reflects what the poll makers say will bring them more votes. This President Obama’s ‘new view’ comes after the polls say that more than 50% of votes now agree to gay marriage and therefore President Obama feels it will help his re-election campaign. Long live Democracy!

  2. Agreed. But, on a separate note.

Is it not time to legalize polygamy? When a man can marry another man, what is so wrong with marrying a second woman and a add a few children for the national GDP?

  3. Rafiq, you are wrong on so many counts.
    1) The polls showed 50%AGAINST, 48% in favour.
2)Practically all US commentator (both TV & print media) have said it is a mixed bag for Obama. He will both gain & Loose votes.
3)Obama is NOT a Mufti,Pope,Archbishop or Khalifa. He is not saying Gay-marriage is not a sin.As a president , he is asserting the CIVIL RIGHTS of gays.
4)Prostitution is legal in Nevada. Gambling is legal in Nevada & New Jersy. Those are sins too.If gay marriage is legal in some states,Obama will do nothing about it.
5)Obama is not banning Ahmadi worship because ,he disagree with their beliefs. Off course, you should realise that US is not Paki-Beggeristan.Enough said.It will need a lot of moderation.

Totally unexpected of the President. pushing the country and the Nation and the future generation in to total destruction. Stories in the Holy Quran as well as Holy Bible are for learning lesson from the History. The Promised Messiah has already warned in a great Prophecy, ” You will witness the time of Noah with your own very eyes and you will see the land of Lot in your front eyes”
    Zarif Ahmad

  5. In my humble opinion, we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture here. Gays and lesbians, pre-marital sex, teenage pregnancies, extra-marital affairs, prostitution etc. are all symptoms of a much larger problem – lack of modesty.

It astonishes me when the Pope focuses his attention on abortion and gay rights, but says nothing about the need for modesty and chastity. If a religious leader of his stature is not willing to tackle the problem in a fair and responsible manner, then it is too much to expect President Obama to govern from a biblical perspective.

In my humble opinion, although societies stand to benefit from promotion of religious values, it would be too difficult for a democratically elected President to go against popular belief. So we, as members of the The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, need to rise to the challenge of changing popular belief through exposition of reason and logic.

As for President Obama, he still has my vote for a variety of reasons.

  6. At first I found it a bit ‘strange’ that ‘polygamy’ is mentioned at the same time as ‘gay marriage’. But, yes, why not? If the whole concept of what we considered to be a traditional marriage of one man with one women changes then we can let it change just a little bit more, to permit one man to marry more than one lady (as is legal in many countries and is actually practiced in many more…)
