Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is to tender his cabinet’s resignation to Queen Beatrix after the collapse of talks on an extra round of austerity measures, Dutch media reported on Monday.
It is expected that Rutte will present his resignation to the queen at a meeting at the palace later in the day, ANP said.
“The Prime Minister will meet her Majesty the Queen during their weekly discussions to inform her over the current political situation,” the government information service RVD said in an earlier statement.
Wilders walks
Negotiations on austerity measures between the minority government and the Freedom Party – which has an agreement with the coalition to support it in parliament – broke down on Saturday when Geert Wilders walked out of the talks just as an agreement seemed imminent.
