Wall street Journal:
France’s center-right President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is seeking a second mandate, and Socialist Party candidate Francois Hollande came ahead in Sunday’s presidential election and will compete in a run-off on May 6, according to estimates of preliminary results seen by The Wall Street Journal.
Because no one candidate took more than 50% of the votes, Messrs. Sarkozy and Hollande will advance to a final round in two weeks. Opinion polls conducted ahead of Sunday’s first-round vote have pointed to a victory of Mr. Hollande in a run-off.
