PUTRAJAYA: The Government is giving local authorities RM44.4mil more to spend, besides the RM182mil already budgeted for the year.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung, who announced this, said RM29.4mil was for 98 local authorities in the peninsula while the rest was for Sabah and Sarawak.
He said the extra allocation was to enable the local authorities to undertake minor projects capped at RM20,000 in their areas.
The local authorities must use up the funds by year-end.
“This is the first time that local authorities are getting extra (money). Although this is not a compulsory allocation, it is for the local authorities to develop the areas under their care.
“I don’t know that if we can do this again next year,” he said after presenting the allocations at his ministry yesterday.
Chor directed the local authorities to put the allocation to “full use” to upgrade roads, drainage and infrastructure like bus stops and wet markets to benefit the people.
