PETALING JAYA: The right education and attitude, coupled with less politicking and more innovation, will help the nation become a high-income economy, a conference on the making of a high-income nation here heard.
“One challenge is to ensure that the bottom 40% of the economy is not neglected and that students are empowered; whether they are from public or private schools,” social analyst Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria said.
“The bottom 40% needs more than handouts to move on. They need skills and reforms,” he told participants at the conference on Making High Income Nation A Reality here yesterday.
Dr Denison, a senior fellow at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, was speaking during the session on Turning Vision into Reality.
Stressing on equality, he said things should not be politicised or racialised.
