Island’s spirit of patriotism soars

GEORGE TOWN: The spirit of patriotism is deeply felt here with a sea of Jalur Gemilang flying high at public and private buildings in conjunction with the Merdeka Day celebrations.

National flags flying outside the City Stadium and the Federal government agencies. Many locals are expressing their love of the country by flying the flag in their homes and at their business premises.

In the tourist belt such as Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Bunga, Jalur Gemilang are seen hanging outside roadside stalls, mosques and hotels.

Several cars draped in Jalur Gemilang were also seen on the roads catching the attention of curious on-lookers who did a a double take as the vehicles zoomed passed them.

Graham John, 46, from Britain, said he was touched to see the way Malaysians embraced the National Day celebration.
