New South Wales police gain power to remove burqas

Rfi. France.

Police in the Australian state of New South Wales have been given the power to demand the removal of burqas and face covering in order to identify a suspected criminal.

The move was approved on Monday, following a recent case of a Muslim woman who was acquitted after a judge decided she could not be identified because she was wearing a burqa.

“I don’t care whether a person is wearing a motorcycle helmet, a burqa, niqab, face veil or anything else, the police should be allowed to require those people to make their identification clear,” state premier Barry O’Farrell said.

  1. Europe in recent decades has seen huge increases in the numbers of people being diagnosed with skin cancer. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the most important modifiable risk factors for the most prevalent and malignant skin cancer.

In view of state financial burden, bylaws need to be directed to increase the limit of minimum coverings rather ban over-covering etc

  2. I have just read this comment:

Dark colors absorb all colors of light and store it as Thermal Energy. Therefore dark colors feel warmer than light colors.

As for protection from UV rays is concerned, black color may be better since it absorbs all spectrums of rays and stores it as Thermal Energy in the fabric rather than in skin. This is why people in hot climate are blessed with darker skins.

Some one with relevant background may answer it better.
