MISSIONARY Imtiaz Ahmed has a simple message he wants to spread about the Islamic faith – it is all about peace.
“In this time there are a lot of things which are going on in the world because of terrorism and people being killed,”
Mr Ahmed says.
“Unfortunately people think that maybe this is all because of religion and we want to tell them and inform them this is not because of religion.”
Mr Ahmed, who works with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association at Beverley, is part of the organisation’s new program, Coffee and Islam.
The initiative started six weeks ago and gives those unsure about the religion the chance to have a coffee and a chat with a member of the mosque.
Mr Ahmed says the meetings are geared towards clearing up “misconceptions” about the Islamic faith. “Islam is about peace,” he says.
“Many people hesitate to visit a mosque and we decided if we start in this way to invite people to ask us any question and they have any question about Jihad, women, anything about Islam and we will try our best to try and remove that misconception.
