President-elect Adama Barrow has said his election success last weekend will usher in a new Gambia where freedom and respect for the rule of law will prevail.
Speaking just after his victory was announced on Friday Barrow said his government once installed, will carry out a complete reform in the country. He said areas such as the economy, which deals with the living condition of the Gambian people, will be looked at among many others.

Asked on the fate of political prisoners, Barrow said those issues will be dealt with expressing hope that they will be released either by the outgoing President Jammeh before the handing over or after he took over.
Asked on his priorities Barrow said they are many but at the moment they are focusing on forming their cabinet to get ready to work. ‘There is a lot of work”, he said. Barrow further said his victory reflected the general feeling of the people of the Gambia, the majority of whom he said are yearning for change. “It is not about me. Anyone put up by the Coalition would equally won, It is the people not any individual, ‘he said. He thanked his team and supporters for the hard work and promised that he will be President for all Gambians.
Meanwhile, outgoing President Yahya Jammeh over the weekend addressed the nation, conceding defeat to Barrow and promising to hand over in January. The President further said he has no intention to contest the results as he had promised that he will never govern without the mandate of the Gambian people. ”You have decided to choose Adama Barrow as the new leader of our country and I will respect that,” he said in the broadcast.

President Jammeh also telephoned Barrow and congratulated him assuring him of his support in the transition procedure.
