    Subject: Friday Blood Drive Event

    Dear Colleagues and staff:

It is my pleasure to co-sponsor an event that is taking place this Friday, October 11th. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has organized a “Muslims For Life” blood drive at the State House to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital. The drive is in honor of the victims of 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing. This event is part of a national “Muslims For Life” campaign, which has set a goal to help collect 12,000 pints of blood that will help save an estimated 36,000 lives.

If you are interested in giving blood, the Children’s Hospital bloodmobile will be parked at 22 Beacon Street (in front of Dunkin Donuts) from 11:00 – 5:00. There will also be a reception on the Grand Staircase at 11:30 with refreshments. The Boston Athletic Association’s Executive Director, Tim Grilk, will be speaking.

The entire process of donating will take about 30 minutes and every pint collected can save 3 lives. I hope you can join us!

Annual “Muslims for Life” National Blood Drive:

In 2011, as part of the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA approached the American Red Cross with an idea to help collect 10,000 pints of blood across America saving more than 30,000 lives. The campaign ran in over 200 locations and resulted in 11,803 pints being collected. To date, “Muslims for Life” has helped collect over 23,000 bags of blood that can save up to 70,000 lives.

The Greater Boston chapter has partnered with the American Red Cross (ARC), Boston Children Hospital, Boston Athletics Association (BAA) and Canton Police Department to hold multiple blood-drives in the Greater Boston area as part of this nationwide effort.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA received bipartisan support on Capitol Hill for “Muslims for Life” campaign in the past two years. Republican and Democratic lawmakers voiced their strong support for the blood drives. Participants included: U.S. Congressman Tom Petri (R-WI), U.S. Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), U.S. Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA), U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) and U.S. Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA).

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and its partners hope to inform Americans that the perpetrators of the horrific attacks on our country 12 years ago and recently on Boston do not represent Islam or Muslims, that Islam stands for peace and values all human life. The Community wants to show with their actions that as Muslims the only blood they shed is to save lives, not take lives. By partnering with a broad and diverse group of partners across the country (faith-based, community service, community education, etc.), the campaign seeks to raise 12,000 bags of blood across the country in 2013.
