AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan on Sunday urged Arab and Islamic countries to support the establishment of a global fund for zakat and solidarity.
During a meeting with ambassadors of Arab and Muslim countries to follow up on the initiative, Prince Hassan said the fund would help Arab and Islamic countries achieve unity.
At the meeting, attended by Awqaf Minister Abdul Salam Abbadi, the prince stressed the need for using zakat, an Islamic tax on income, to serve humanitarian causes.
The initiative was adopted during a conference of awqaf ministers in Malaysia and the Kingdom was entrusted with following up on it in 2002.
NOTE BY THE EDITOR: There is need for a lot of education: Zakat is primarily not a tax on Income but a tax on wealth. The journalist attending the conference ‘did not quite get it’. What can we expect ‘from the rest of us’?

Dear Team,
First of all, I would like to brief about our situation in details in order to seek for your consideration.
We are terribly stucked in Abu Dhabi, UAE in terms of financial crises – I mean it never happened in our entire life that we are in such condition that we really seek for fund.
We came here in Abu Dhabi to have a better future for our kid, when we came here I was pregnant for 5 months, my husband is doing job as sales executive, and I start hunting for new job because in UAE our survival was difficult – later on I got the job in same company where my husband is working, everything was running fine – suddenly I got pre term labor pains in 7th month and Dr advised to have complete bed rest. At that time our insurance company wasnt facilitating us because of time span of 6 months. So I had to go back to Pakistan – this is the time we started take loan from our company in order to pay our medical bills and airfare because we aren’t earning high salary. We took 5000 AED so I can go back and pay our bills.
In Pakistan the medical is too expensive as well for C section operation, I have been operated with C section, after delivery my baby was in critical condition and they put her on oxygen because as per Dr’s there, her heart beats so faster as compared to normal baby, we start using our credit cards and took loan from our company to save our baby.
When I went to Pakistan I took unpaid maternity leaves from company for 3 months, and after 3 months I have to come back because if I wouldn’t come the job of my husband goes into stake because we work for same company.
Again to apply for the visa of our baby and air fare we needed money for that we took loan again from our personal resource of 7000 AED. We thought to apply for loan from bank to pay all the payment of people and then we will pay monthly to bank, but no bank is giving us loan as our company isn’t listed – we thought of dunia finance but their interest is so high that we cannot afford that either.
Now, we are badly stucked because every is asking for their payments even our company and we aren’t able to pay we are really depressed and frustrated our salary scale aren’t high we are running hand to mouth.
We have to pay 13000 AED to our company
AED 7000 of credit cards
AED 5000 of personal resource
So total we are in debt of 25000 AED – please help us to release our depression we are getting sick day by day we are disturbed and because of us our daughter is also disturbed.
I can provide you my all the medical records, my daughter medical records.
I beg seriously we need help, we need to clear all payments and we just want to go back and will never come again here in this same country. Please consider our request.
