Benedict toured the Vatican plaza in his famous “popemobile”, stopping to kiss children and waving to the crowd of more than 100,000 gathered under a bright, cloudless sky.
Some in the throng held up huge banners with messages such as “Benedict, we’ll miss you!” and “The pope is the heart of this city!” or waved the Vatican’s yellow and white flag at the pontiff’s last public event.
The pope drew an analogy between his reign and a miracle recounted in the Bible when Jesus Christ calmed the waters as he was sailing with his disciples including St Peter – a fisherman by trade who is believed by Christians to be the first pope.

This unprecedented act of resignation of the Vatican pope, 16th by the name of Benedict has added a new page in the history of the Catholics Christianity when he bade farewell to the ten hundred thousands followers standing in the St.Peters Square, under bright sun-light of cloudless sky,on Feb.27,2013. The Pope admitted his decision was caused by the ‘Stormy Waters’, during his Pontification period. The ‘insiders’ may be knowing the nature of the said ‘stormy waters’, but the curiosity-ridden ‘outsiders’ like this humble scribe would like to know the nature and variety of these history creating ‘stormy waters’? Will someone more enlightened TMT reader do the needful and throw some light on this issue.
We may be religious or not, we may agree or disagree with Pope Benedict’s views, but in my opinion, we should admire a decision that places the best interest of the Catholic Church above his own prestige.
