The administration at the Holy Family Hospital on Tuesday suspended five staffers after a rat scratched and bit a newborn in the gynaecology ward on Monday, Express News reported.
According to Express News correspondent Adnan Mukhtar, the nurse in charge, two nurses and two sanitary workers were suspended during a meeting of the administration, which is currently discussing as to whose negligence led to the incident.
Medical Superintendent Captain Fayyaz said that previously another child was scratched by a rat, but had survived. He questioned how the rat reached the beds in the ward. The deputy medical superintendent at the hospital said that it was not in their authority to suspend grade-17 or above doctors. After the incident occurred yesterday senior hospital officials had clarified that the deceased baby was stillborn.
