Alhumdullilah, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Bangalore under the banner of “Humanity First” on Sunday the 18th November organized a Public Walkathon at Wilson Garden to mark World Diabetes Day. It was followed by a Free Diabetes Detection and Awareness Camp at the community’s Mosque premises at Wilson Garden in collaboration with the Danish Pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk.
The Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. M. A. Saleem Flagged Off the 2 KM Walkathon which was participated by the dignitaries, educated residents, the underprivileged, school children, the staff of various hospitals, clinics and other organizations of Wilson Garden and nearby areas. A large contingent of Police Personal assisted in blocking the main roads for over an hour for the procession to go on smoothly. Banners with Jamaat’s name, Humanity First and placards were prominently carried by the crowd.

Munichoodappa (Senior Diabetologist) were among the dignitaries who attended the Campaign and showed Solidarity to the cause.
R. V. Devaraj spoke about the dangers of the dreaded Disease and that it could affect people of all ages including children. Dr. M. A. Saleem spoke about the importance of walking which could help in keeping a person healthy, active and keep many diseases at bay apart from Diabetes.
Senior Diabetologists Dr. C. Munichoodappa educated the participants about the alarming growth in numbers of Diabetic cases in the Country and the ways in which the diseases could be prevented. Dr. Syed A.A. Javaz gave an introduction of Humanity First and spoke about it’s efforts in various countries in Disaster Relief and Humanitarian causes. M. Shafiulla Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Bangalore thanked everyone who took part in the program and for showing their support along with the Jamaat in the fight against Diabetes.
More than 500 people Participated in the Walkathon and were screened for Diabetes. Throughout the program there were Awareness lectures, QA Sessions, classes on Good Diet and Consultations with experts; Free Glucometers were distributed to children in whom Type-1 Diabetes was detected and Free medicines, nutritional products and literature were also distributed.
What did we Achieve ?
Alhumdulillah, Good Relationships were built with Area Residents, the authorities including the police, a thorough Introduction and Exposure to Humanity First activities. Lot of non-Ahmadi Muslims and non-Muslims also came who had never before entered our Mosque showed huge interests in knowing about the Jama’at and took plenty of literature from us. The visiting dignitaries appreciated the Jama’at for our efforts and promised to support us when ever required.
A week earlier on Sunday the 11th November the Community took active participation in setting the Guinness World Record for the Largest ‘Health Awareness’ Programme at a single Venue as part of the “WAR on Diabetes” Campaign Organized by ‘Novo Nordisk’ at Palace Grounds at which Shri Santosh Hagde (former justice of the Supreme Court Of India) was the Chief Guest.

Alhumdullilah again, the Program was a MASSIVE SUCCESS due to the well coordinated efforts of the Jama’at in a short duration. There was very good involvement of Khuddams who took up responsibilities at various departments to make this happen. May Allah Bless each and every one involved in this.
