Recently a film named Innocence of Muslims drew large publicity in both the East and West. The film presents a vulgar and ‘fictional’ depiction of the noble life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Additionally, a number of media outlets published a series of calculated and malicious caricatures designed to depict the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in a negative light. The film and subsequent images understandably caused the Muslim world great anguish and outrage. A significant group of Muslims reacted with such anger and recklessness that dozens of people were tragically killed and a great deal of property destroyed. We believe this form of protest is a clear departure from the peaceful teachings of Islam and the noble example of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

Why did these controversial and disturbing events unfold? How does Islam actually instruct its followers to react in the face of ridicule? Who was the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)? And how can future instability and disharmony be avoided? The Ahmadiyya Muslim Student Association intends to discuss these questions during a lecture at London Metropolitan University on Wednesday 14th of November 2012 at 6.00 PM – 8.00 PM.
