It’s hard to believe these were actually done by first graders. Their insight may surprise you. your command of english is admirable. read the first sentence, actual phrase is like this:
Strike while the iron is hot (instead the student wrote while the bug is close). OR
children should be seen not heard (instead the student wrote spanked). if you still don’t get it God bless you.

Some proverbs are not as original, but 1st graders have done pretty well. Such as, when blind leads the blind, get out of the way .. ……. not bad. I think it is admirable.
