Shahriar Kabir’s documentary on Rise of Islamic militancy and future of secular democracy in Pakistan
Jihad without Border
‘Jihad without Border’, the 2nd part of Shahriar Kabir’s Jihad Trilogy (“Trilogy”), explains the rise of Islamic militancy in Pakistan. The Historical Documentary focuses on a nine thousand year old tradition of human civilization starting from Mehrgarh of Baluchistan. The First part of the Trilogy, titled the ‘Portrait of Jihad’ dealt with the rise of Islamic militancy in Bangladesh. The concluding third part of the Trilogy, titled ‘The Ultimate Jihad’, will be on the global network and ultimate goal of Islamic militancy across the world.
Jihad without Border is a close look at the Pakistani Taliban and Jamat-e Islami’s regional and global terrorist network, as well as Sufi tradition of Islam in Pakistan.
Islam was introduced to people of Asian countries through the Sufis those preached amity, equality and humanity. Whenever the Muslim rulers conquered other nations and tried to convert them into Islam by force that ended in massacre and defeat. Prompted by ‘Wahabism’ political Islam in the recent past was introduced by the religious bigots like Maolana Maodudi in India & Pakistan, as well as Hasan Al Banna in Egypt & Middle East, who are the founders of ‘Jamat-e Islami’ and ‘Muslim Brotherhood’.
The Bangladesh Genocide of 1971; Al Qaida’s atrocities in Afghanistan; recent killing of twice elected prime minister Benazir Bhutto; governor Salman Taseer and federal Christian minister Shahbaz Bhatti; and attacks on Sufi shrines, mosques, churches, slaughtering pilgrims in Pakistan are a few expressions of Jihadi Islam preached by ‘Jamat-e Islami’ and ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ that already have setup a global network in Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. ‘Wahabism’ and ‘Maodudism’ promote terrorism in the name of Islam that appeared as a severe threat to Pakistan’s existence.
In Pakistan today, religion dominates almost every aspect of politics including civic laws. As a result murder, rape, mayhem and terrorism in the name of Islam and violent Jihadist skirmishes are conducted both within and outside the borders of the country. Pakistan’s national security is at stake, and even preserving its sovereignty is in jeopardy, and so are its social fabric, multiple cultural identities and traditional human values.
Jihad without Border was filmed in different locations across Pakistan. Shahriar Kabir traveled from Bolan Pass to Khaibar. The Film contains a series of interviews with Islamic scholars, experts on terrorism, Jihadi leaders, human rights defenders and political leaders of Pakistan, which is known as the most dangerous country in the world because of Islamic militancy.
Young Muslims of second generation living in western countries suffering from identity crisis are easy prey to Jihad preachers of Asian origin, mostly belong to ‘Jamat-e Islami’, ‘Jama-al Islam’ and ‘Muslim Brotherhood’. There is a need to build up a platform of secular humanists fighting against terrorism in the name of religion in Pakistan and other Muslim majority countries. Jihad without Border will provide a guideline in this regard.
If Pakistani politics and society fail to prevent Islamic militancy that not only bring destruction of this country but also promote terrorism in neighboring countries. The message of Islamic militancy that carried over to the West is challenging its democratic values and stability, as well as global peace and human civilization. The documentary ended with a quest for democracy and thirst for secularism in Pakistan. The elderly are losing hope, but many in the younger generation are hopeful about the future of secular democracy in Pakistan.
This film will create awareness among the youth about secular humanism, as well as danger of ‘Maodudism’, which is against the basic tenet of Islam.
